On Deadly Ground
On Deadly Ground (1994)

IMDB rating: 3.50

Plot: Posing as an environmental story about a corrupt oil company owner called Jennings, who will stop at nothing to open a new refinery in Alaska, this is just an excuse for another action film. Fists, feet, bullets and bombs galore as Forest Taft, a disgruntled employee, is chosen by an Eskimo chief as the saviour of his people. Forest’s mission is to prevent the new refinery going on-line before the land rights are returned to the Eskimos. The “God-damn” ludicrous dialogue is supposed to be “God-damn” serious, but you just try not “God-damn” laughing at it.

Is it possible to change a verbal statement to the police?
Hello,

This is a crazy, very unfortunate incident…the lawyer involved in the case actually said it sounds like something from the movies-but, here’s the deal…

My boyfriend of 1 year has been charged with a felony: assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor charge: aggravated domestic violence. He did no such thing! And has NEVER even put his hands on me, ever. Here is the story…

I was feeling very depressed about 2wks ago and took too much Ativan and was drinking alcohol. I impulsively cut my wrist with a piece of broken glass but not bad (I was not trying to kill myself). I was in my boyfriends apartment, which is above the liquor store where he works. He came upstairs on a break and saw blood and freaked, which is the appropriate response (I was passed out from the Ativan and alcohol). He began calling people in my cell to come help me. My dad came and couldn’t get me to leave. A couple hours later, my mom and my sister showed up and couldn’t get me to even coherently answer them, let alone wake up. So, my mom and sis told my bf they couldn’t get me to leave. When he got off work and came upstairs, he attempted to physically get me out of bed…and I woke up swinging! I can’t exactly say I woke up because I don’t remember much of the incident. It’s almost as if I were sleep walking because I was NOT myself. My mom said she could tell I wasn’t myself because my eyes were glazed over and I was full of rage.

My bf tried restraining me. I was pulling his hair, scratching his face, and apparently I bit him. At one point of the situation, I am on the ground, he is over me, my mom walked into the room and sees in his hand what she believed to be a knife. She took the object from his hand and threw it. I don’t know what happened after that, but the next thing I am told is that when my bf and his brother were trying to get me down the stairs, I fell down the stairs with them and as they were getting up, my head was being stepped on, but my mom and sister told the police they thought this might have been accidental.

When they finally got me into the car, I guess I insisted I would not leave without my Laptop. My sister returned upstairs to get it and my bf’s brother told her she couldn’t have it. Somehow, he ended up choking her, then apologizing and then gave her my computer.

I was then taken to the ER. I remember as we were arriving my mom repeatedly saying ‘They’re crazy’. So, the cops became involved somehow. I told the cop I didn’t really remember anything and was still out of it when he was questioning me. I feel like the questions he used to get my boyfriend’s name were unfair and manipulative in the sense that when he was asking me his name, he asked who had done this to me. When I gave him my bf’s name, I wasn’t saying that he injured me, I was giving it so he would know who was involved. He took pictures of the bruises on my arms. I had a concussion and they did X-Rays of my back to ensure that no bones were broken. No bones broken, but my back is still messed up and I’m constantly in pain.

Anyway, my bf is on parole and is facing some heavy charges. My mom told the police he had a knife in his hands, when in reality he did not have a knife. It was a bottle opener attached to a key. But, here’s where even more complication to the story comes in…My mom actually had a pocket-knife that she took with her and threw into the driveway in the midst of the chaos, but omitted this from the police in fear that she would be in trouble. So, the police retrieved my mothers knife, but believe it to be the knife, or what she thought was a knife that was in my bf’s hand. She planned on telling the cop this, but he never came back to the room.

I contacted his parole officer to try and make sure that if he were to get a bond that she would release him and she explained to me the only thing I can do is go in person and see the investigating officer and try to get him to change the report. She explained to me that she has to do what the state tells her to do and she can only go by the information contained w/in the report.

He turned himself in and the judge disallowed any contact with me. He is in jail as of now and has no chance of release until this is all settled. I am worried and concerned as to the outcome of this nightmarish situation. The charges and the punishment do not in any way fit what actually happened. The injuries I received were from him trying to restrain me and from me falling down the stairs.

I need advice and to know if there is anything my mom, sister, or I can do to help reverse the situation.

Yes, you can change it, whether or not they believe it is another question. Most women lie to protect their abusive boy friends. Trying to convince the police that you are not that type of person will be hard.

You all sound like a great bunch of folks to hang out with.

Bottom line. Who cares. You all sound like you belong in prison. Hope the dude rots.

Who wrote the poem "English is a stupid language"?
There is no egg in the eggplant,
No ham in the hamburger
And neither pine nor apple in the pineapple.
English muffins were not invented in England,
French fries were not invented in France.

We sometimes take English for granted, but if we examine its paradoxes we find that:
Quicksand takes you down slowly,
Boxing rings are square,
And a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

If writers write, how come fingers don’t fing?
If the plural of tooth is teeth,
Shouldn’t the plural of phone booth be phone beeth?
If the teacher taught,
Why hasn’t the preacher praught?

If a vegetarian eats vegetables,
What the heck does a humanitarian eat?
Why do people recite at a play,
Yet play at a recital?
Park on driveways and
Drive on parkways?
How can the weather be as hot as hell on one day
And as cold as hell on another?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language where a house can burn up as it burns down,
And in which you fill in a form
By filling it out
And a bell is only heard once it goes!

English was invented by people, not computers,
And it reflects the creativity of the human race
(Which of course isn’t a race at all.)

That is why:
When the stars are out they are visible,
But when the lights are out they are invisible.
And why it is that when I wind up my watch
It starts,
But when I wind up this poem
It ends.

im not sure, but the poem is sooo true (:
